“I don’t have to wait for someone else to give me the opportunity to bring my ideas to life, I can just do it.”
You may have seen Zolee Griggs on your TV screen as an actress in shows like Wu Tang: An American Saga but she is also content creator and music connoisseur, currently based in Atlanta. Get to know more about her story and inspirations with us:
CF — Hey Zolee, just wanted to start off by thanking you for your time and allowing us to chat with you! How has life been lately?
Zolee — Thank you for having me! Life has been very busy & uncomfortable in a good way! Been pushing me out of my comfort zone and forcing me to embody what I truly want in this life!
CF — That’s great to hear, being uncomfortable is where true growth occurs! For starters, could you give us some info on your creative medium(s)?
Zolee — Exactly! Yes of course, I’m an all around entertainer that’s what I believe I was born to do but currently I have my acting career, producing/content creation which I’ve been doing since 16yo, and music commentary which stems from my love of music and always wanting to go to college to be a journalist but I dropped out lol.
CF — That’s really dope, it’s good that you’re able to pursue multiple outlets at once. How do you manage to stay inspired and motivated, while balancing all of that?
Zolee — I stay inspired because as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I don’t have to wait for someone else to give me the opportunity to bring my ideas to life, I can just do it. So I’ve been dabbling more in creating for myself and hoping others enjoy it as much as I do. I stay curious about other mediums such as music, nature, physical art and of course tv/film.
CF — Great mindset to have! External resources and validation can be helpful but the purest form of creating starts from within. Since we covered how, I want to get into who some of your biggest inspirations are creatively.
Zolee — My biggest inspirations currently are Issa Rae, Quinta Brunson, Donald Glover…honestly anyone who is able to carve out their own lane and make the opportunities for themselves. I love that and I’m taking notes
CF — Got you, they’ve definitely all made waves in the industry in their own unique way. I’m glad you mentioned Donald Glover since this is our Atlanta edition! How long have you been in ATL and how has your experience been?
Zolee — Soooo, I’ve been in ATL for almost a year, but I had been visiting ATL since 2023 and my first time here ever was in 2019, and I fell in love with it then! I think this is not only a beautiful city but it has so many beautiful people with personality in it that it’s been a blast. Never a dull moment.
CF — I completely agree, it’s an amazing city! What are some of the biggest obstacles you’ve faced with carving out your own lane and finding your way out here?
Zolee — The biggest obstacles are to continue. Honestly, like some days I don’t want the responsibility to create, curate, execute, delegate tasks and such. Sometimes I think it would be much easier to work for someone else and be comfortable, but I know in my true heart that’s not how I want to live and that’s not a part of my calling from God. So I continue.
CF — Beautifully said, the dream is making a living through doing what we love but it definitely comes with its own sacrifices. We appreciate you so much for your time and sharing your perspective! What should we be on the lookout for from you and how can the CF community support?
Zolee — Awe I appreciate the support. Always tap in with @lmpyo.mus for new music recommendations as well as some entertainment. You can watch Captain Zero into the Abyss the latest short film I’m in as well as Money Talk$! I appreciate yall!!
